County Employees Reminded Of Inclement Weather Policies

snowmangraphicWith winter nearing, here’s a reminder that the county has in place a system through which all employees will be notified of the status of county operations in the event of adverse winter weather.

Employees at the courthouse, Gunzburger Building and satellite offices are reminded that, in lieu of the two annual Election Days as designated vacation days, they have been given two “floating holidays” which may be used for weather-related absences. As with all benefit time, please contact your supervisor. Also, please note that — per union contract — these two floating holidays do not apply to employees of Potter County Human Services.

Here’s the county policy:

  • Potter County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is the official point of contact for all information. Should the Commissioners decide to close county offices as a result of hazardous driving conditions, that decision will be made no later than 7 am and communicated to the EMA office.
  • EMA personnel will notify all department heads and supervisors by telephone. These managers are responsible for relaying the information to their employees. A similar notification system will be used in the event of an early closure of county offices due to weather conditions. All managers, supervisors and department heads are encouraged to contact EMA to make certain they are included on the call list.
  • EMA and/or the Commissioners will notify area media, as time allows, in the event of closings or delays affecting any county services. Similar information will be posted on the Potter County Today.
  • Any employee seeking additional information about a potential closing, delay or circumstances particular to that office or department should contact his/her department head or supervisor. As a last resort, employees may call the EMA Office at (814) 274-8900.
